About Fez
Fez is the spiritual and cultural centre of Morocco. The most ancient of the imperial cities, Fez is a city of enormous variety and contrast. While the city is unrivalled in the splendour and beauty of its monuments and architecture, its geography precludes change. The small streets cannot be widened, which can be a blessing as there are no cars, with a distinct lack of modern transport within the medina.

As you walk through Fez it’s souks, mosques, dye pits, restaurants, workshops and markets compete for your attention and attack your senses. The narrow, crowded streets are buzzing with activity. At the heart of the medina is the Karaouiyne Mosque, which remains the religious centre of Morocco.

Flights from the UK to Marrakech are regular, and transfers to Fez can be organised cheaply.

Imouzer du Kandar

Perched at an altitude of 1345m, the ravishingly beautiful Berber village of Imouzer du Kandar demonstrates the essence of tranquillity. Except on Mondays, which is the day of the souk!

There is a lot to see in and around Imouzer du Kandar and it is well worth visiting whilst in the Fez region. We suggest that you climb up to the Djebel Abad, which is the summit of Kandar – the view is breathtaking! You can see the Sais plain, the flat roofs of Fez and over to Meknes.

Taza

Founded by the Berbers in the 10th century, Taza guarded the route leading from the fertile lands of the West through to the North. In the old part of the town there are many ancient monuments. Additionally, you will find the cereal market and the souks where you can buy mats, jewellery and carpets. You must visit Dar el Makhzen, the Great Mosque, in which hangs one of the most beautiful bronze chandeliers in Morocco holding 514 old lamps!

The Taza region is magnificent, with forests, tall ferns, springs, waterfalls and lakes – all protected by the Djebel Tazzeka national park.

Here we encourage you to take the plunge! The warm and healing waters at Moulay Yacoub are believed to relieve rheumatism, nose and throat infections, skin problems and gynaecological problems. A luxury spa has opened there with a team of experts.
