Weather in New Zealand
New Zealanders generally get to experience a warm Christmas and a cold June and July so in many respects one has to just reverse all our European understanding of weather around to understand the climate in New Zealand.
Regularly compared to the UK for its weather, New Zealand gets moderately temperate weather on the whole although rainfall can be steady but it’s often fairly changeable. Summer and autumn are from December through to May and are commonly the most popular times for families and holiday makers to visit. Summer is usually warm in most of the regions and winters cold in the central districts of the South Island.
The wind can become quite strong in the Cook Strait which is the piece of water in between the sub tropical North Island and the South Island.
