About Rhodes

Rhodes, being the largest of the Dodecanese Islands, has many resorts to choose from, each with different qualities and most lying on the Islands North or East coasts. Those wanting a calm, peaceful holiday should try Lindos, Pefkos, Afandou or Kolymbia. For a lively, fast paced holiday choose Ixia, Faliraki or Rhodes Town.

Do not miss The Lindos Acropolis. Reached by either Lindos Taxi (donkey) or on foot, it’s a scattering of ancient Greek ruins with an amazing view of the island. It is well worth the effort to get to the top!

How to see Rhodes

Pootling around the island in a hire car makes for a fabulously relaxed way to see the sights. En route, typically Greek whitewashed villages a re common, but make a point of stopping at Embona for a tour of its winery and a taste of the fantastic Rhodian wine.

Lindos Town

Look for the Geloblu ice cream parlour to sample the traditional Greek New Year cake, Vasilopita, which is flavoured with almonds, oranges and brandy.

For dinner, Mavrikos in the main square has a wide range of traditional Greek dishes. Alternatively soak up the view from the balcony of Mythos Restaurant in Lindos Square.

Rhodes Old Town

It is here that you will get your culture fix! Take a stroll along the Street of the Knights to the Palace of the Grand Masters, which is a restored museum. If you want to climb the clock tower you are able to trade your ticket in for a well-deserved cocktail on the way back down.

Indulge yourself in some shopping in the many boutiques selling traditional Greek items such as olive wood carvings.

Faliraki

Whilst it is still a reasonably popular destination for stag and hen parties, there is now a new side to Faliraki. Many of the tacky places have now closed being replaced by more swish bars and restaurants. Head to Jamaica Bar by the beachfront for the perfect sunset.

Flying Into Rhodes

The main airport that feeds the area is Diagoras International Airport which has the airport code RHO. It is located in the city of Rhodes.
