Berlin is the capital city of Germany and one of the 16 states (Länder) of the Federal Republic of Germany. Berlin is the largest city in Germany and has a population of 4.5 million within its metropolitan area and 3.4 million within the city limits.

Since reunification 20 years ago, Berlin has undergone a massive evolution. The last memories of communism have been rebuilt and what has been worth salvaging has been lovingly restored. Berlin now features some of the world’s most amazing architecture that will, quite simply, take your breath away.

Exuberant, exciting and energetic – Berlin is the perfect weekend break at any time of the year. There are regular flights from the UK and plenty of hotels to suit all budgets and tastes. If you want to take some time out from the city the picturesque Peacock Island with its quaint little white palace from 1794 is worth a visit. Only accessible by a ferry, the island has conserved its insular character. At its northern front you can find a former dairy-farm which has been built to look like a gothic ruin. The garden landscape with its old oak trees was conceived by garden designer Lenné and is, of course, inhabited by lordly peacocks.

The main airport that feeds the area is Tegel International Airport which has the airport code TXL. It is located in the city of Berlin.
