Getting Around Sharm El Sheikh
Taxis
There are no shortages of taxis in Sharm El Sheikh so you shouldn't ever worry too much about eventually finding one to take you to your destination, however, it's important to have some idea of the cost to avoid being ripped off.
The prices shown below are the ones fixed by the local Sinai government. The fixed price sticker for each type of taxi should be displayed clearly in the window screen of the vehicles, but sometimes may be hidden on purpose. They are about 4" across and circular. These prices are quite accurate but for guidance only.
LE = Egyptian pound
Minibus (fixed routes)
From Old Market to Naama Bay, Price= LE 1
From Old Market to Airport , Price= LE 2
From Old Market to Nabq, Price= LE 3
Taxi (white Bonnet)
From Naama Bay to Old Market, Price=LE 15
From Naama Bay to Hadaba, Price= LE 15
From Naama Bay to Airport, Price= LE 20
From Old Market to Hadaba, Price= LE 15
From Old Market to Airport, Price= LE 35
From Old Market to Nabq, Price= LE 40
Peugeot (Blue Bonnet)
From Naama Bay to Old Market, Price= LE 25
From Naama Bay to Hadaba, Price= LE 25
From Old Market to Hadaba, Price= LE 25
From Naama Bay to Airport, Price= LE 35
From Old Market to Nabq, Price= LE 45
To work out the price of the complete journey (that is not listed) just add the 2 or 3 legs amounts together. For example, from Hadaba to the airport in a taxi it would be LE 15 for the Hadaba to Naama Bay plus LE 20 for Naama Bay to the airport making a complete fare of LE 35.
Unfortunately you will never get these prices from the taxis inside the airport as they normally want at least 4 times the proper rate. To get these prices you will need to walk the 100 yards from the terminal building up to the main road and flag a taxi down from there, these guys will normally still try it on but can be haggled down to the right price pretty easily. If the above sounds like your idea of hell, then you should consider the cost of a meet & greet transfer is £5 per person by means of a shuttle bus direct to the door of your hotel, you have to ask yourself - is it really worth trying to save a few pounds as we have described? Book your transfer in advance and enjoy your holiday!
