Taking into consideration at all times the overall size of China you will not be surprised to learn that it has a variety of climatic conditions. In the winter cold air is blown in from the Asian continent creating dry winters on the whole which often leads to high levels of dust in the air from the Gobi Desert. The summer season is hot as to be expected with the Pacific Ocean providing plenty of rain where necessary and humidity can often reach uncomfortable.
To gain entry into China, on a single or double entry basis, a full passport with at least 6 months validity must be produced by all nationals from Britain, Australia, Canada, USA and other EU states. For multiple entries a validity of at least 9 months must be shown.
Note: China does not recognise any form of dual nationality. Travellers with HIV are not allowed to enter the country. Those wishing to travel to Tibet are advised to join a travel group; also individual travellers are required to produce an Alien’s Travel Permit which is issued by the Tibetan Tourism Bureau along with their Chinese Visa.
A visa and proof of a return ticket is required by all nationals of Britain, Australia, Canada, USA and other EU states. Nationals of the UK travelling to Hong Kong are not required to obtain a visa for stays of no longer than 180 days. Nationals of Britain, Australia, Canada and other EU states are not required to obtain a visa if visiting Macao for stays of up to 90 days; nationals of USA may only visit Macao for a maximum of 30 days without obtaining a visa; and nationals of the UK for a maximum stay of 6 months.
All transit passengers who are continuing their journey by the same or first connecting flight to another country within 24 hours and who hold valid onward documentation and do not leave the airport at any time are also exempt from needing to have a visa.
