About Sihanoukville
Sihanoukville is located on the coast of Cambodia, about halfway between Thailand and Vietnam, on the Bay of Thailand.

The only real beach resort in Cambodia, Sihanoukville has lovely, wide and uncrowded beaches, tropical islands, diving, snorkeling and wildlife in the nearby national parks, as well as very affordable dining and accommodation. After 30 years of decline, Sihanoukville is now slowly being developed into one of Southeast Asia’s new beach destinations.

Sihanoukville enjoys a warm tropical monsoon climate with a dry season approximately from November to April and a rainy season from May to October. Springtime months just before the rainy season are the hottest time of the year. Travel to Sihanoukville currently needs to be done by road or by sea, as the international airport there is being extended.

Regular buses to Sihanoukville from the capital city Phnom Penh and minibuses from the border to Thailand are popular current ways to get to Sihanoukville. Ferries to Sihanoukville are also available from Koh Kong at the border to Thailand. Getting around in Sihanoukville is easy by motorbike taxis called motodops, three-wheeled tuk-tuks or by taxis. Boats will take you to the nearby islands. Car rental in Sihanoukville is possible with a local driver, and prices are inexpensive. Motorbikes are also available for hire.

Snorkelling in Sihanoukville is popular on the coral reefs around the islands, and sports fishing trips are also available. Victory Hill above the town has nice views over Sihanoukville. Ream National Park north of the town hosts mangrove forests and offer good hiking and wildlife watching. More opportunities for trekking around Sihanoukville can be found in the Bokor National Park near Kampot. Shopping in Sihanoukville for souvenirs and local handicrafts is very inexpensive.

Flying Into Sihanoukville

The main airport that feeds the area is Pochentong Phnom Penh International Airport which has the airport code PNH. It is located in the city of Phnom Penh.

A new airport has recently opened in Sihanoukville but flights are not frequent and expensive. The airport code for the new airport is KOS.

Buses run regularly from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and normally takes approx 4/5 hours depending on how many times the bus driver decides to stop for food!
